In recent days, I’ve counted losses that I still cannot comprehend. This is a human crisis, and one thing is very clear: no one will win if this war continues to escalate. The U.S. must act urgently to help de-escalate the violence in Israel-Palestine.

Nakba : An Arabic word meaning “catastrophe.” It refers to the ongoing violent displacement of Palestinians that began 75 years ago on May 15, 1948, when more than 700,000 Palestinians were forced from their homes during the creation of the state of Israel. On May 11, 2022, Palestinian-American journalist Shireen Abu Akleh was fatally shot by a soldier while covering an Israeli military raid at a refugee camp. The introduction of the Justice for Shireen Act (H.R.3477) one year later marks a significant step in work to prevent future human rights violations and attacks on press members.
