Quakers Applaud Senate Passage of Savanna’s Act

Washington, DC – The Friends Committee on National Legislation (FCNL) welcomed the passage of Savanna’s Act (S.1942) by the Senate. The bill is now headed to the House for their approval. Savanna’s Act is named after Savanna LaFontaine Greywind, a Dakota woman eight-months pregnant who went missing and was found brutally murdered in August 2017.

Senate Votes for Ending Illegal U.S. War in Yemen

Washington, DC – The Friends Committee on National Legislation (FCNL) hailed today’s historic Senate vote to advance legislation ending American participation in the Saudi-led war in Yemen. It calls on the Senate to immediately vote on final passage, and for the House to also take up this legislation and end illegal military involvement in Yemen’s civil war once and for all.

Washington, DC – The Friends Committee on National Legislation (FCNL) welcomed the Pentagon’s decision late last week to stop mid-air refueling of Saudi-led coalition aircraft bombing Yemen. It also called on Congress to pass legislation ending all forms of U.S. military support for the Saudi-led coalition and to press Saudi Arabia and its allies to immediately end the war in Yemen.

FCNL Welcomes New Ways to Track Ongoing Police Militarization

Washington, DC - The Friends Committee on National Legislation (FCNL) today applauded House appropriators taking several modest steps to change a 1997 law that created a pipeline of weapons and materials between the Pentagon and local police departments. The pipeline is known as the 1033 program after a provision in the recently renewed National Defense Authorization Act.
