Washington has been a buzz of activity recently. While the news headlines may sound dour and dim, there were several major legislative victories on Capitol Hill.
We are in the midst of Congress’s annual appropriations season. This is when our federal government puts its literal money where its mouth is – determining what programs to fund or cut. The House of Representatives has been passing spending bills at a rapid pace.
Both the House and the Senate will go through this process of determining overall spending levels—how big the pie should be—and then dividing it up to fund individual programs. Despite not yet having an agreed upon topline spending numbers, the House is moving forward first, getting a jump start on directing resources towards priorities House leadership and appropriators believe need investment.
