This week, your Senators are expected to vote on final passage of S.J. Res. 54, the Sanders-Lee-Murphy legislation to end U.S. military involvement in the Saudi-led war in Yemen.
On November 28, the Senate voted to advance S.J. Res. 54 out of committee and onto the floor in an overwhelming vote of 63-37. However, some senators have indicated they may not support final passage of the legislation. Furthermore, before getting to final passage, there may be other procedural votes. There may also be amendments to try to weaken the legislation.
There are a lot of different tactics opponents to the legislation could try, which is why it’s so crucial to keep up the pressure, and press for a clean vote in support of S.J. Res. 54.
I know many of you have worked hard to advance this important legislation by lobbying, writing and calling your senators.
We need you to make one last push: Please call 1-833 STOP WAR and use the sample script below: * Hello, my name is [NAME] and I’m a voting constituent from [CITY, STATE]. * I’m calling to urge the senator to vote in favor of S.J. Res. 54, the Sanders-Lee-Murphy legislation to end U.S. military involvement in the Saudi-led war in Yemen. * Do you know if the Senator will be voting in support of this bipartisan legislation to end U.S. complicity in the world’s largest humanitarian crisis? * Thank you. * Optional: Could you send me a written response regarding the Senator’s position on U.S. support for the Saudi-led war in Yemen?
You can also see how your senators voted in November, and last March, when the legislation was defeated by only a seven vote margin.
