During my fellowship at FCNL, I learned about the importance of advocating for U.S. policies that promote peace building and the peaceful prevention of deadly conflict. Now I am on the ground in Rwanda to learn how they are working to rebuild and reconcile communities following the 1994 genocide, which killed between 500,000 and 1 million people.
My fellowship with FCNL taught me the importance of pairing legislative advocacy with locally-led peacebuilding efforts. Now that I am here, I look forward to beginning my work at the Friends Peace House (FPH), a Rwandan Quaker organization in Kigali that works on refugee reintegration, post-conflict reconciliation and vocational training.
I look forward to assisting in FPH’s peacebuilding work, exploring Rwanda and its rich history, and building my connection to Quakerism as I work alongside Quaker peacebuilders here.
