Meet Michelle Beers, 2017-2018 Quaker Outreach Young Fellow!
Michelle Beers is this year’s program assistant for Quaker outreaching, working with Quaker Field Secretary, Christine Ashley. Michelle comes to FCNL from Swannanoa Valley Friends Meeting in North Carolina. She graduated from Warren Wilson College earlier this year, earning a Bachelor’s degree in Social Work. Michelle is happy to return to her home state of Maryland and ready to engage Quakers across the nation!
Michelle was honored in her senior year as the Warren Wilson student who most exhibited excellence in academic achievement, work improvement, citizenship, and contributions to the enrichment of the college community. She earned this recognition because of her extensive campus involvement—speaking and witnessing at annual Earth Day vigils; leading student-groups to annual Moral Marches in Raleigh, NC; and facilitating monthly interfaith dinners, which fostered conversations on inclusivity and diversity on campus. Michelle also has experience working at Pisgah Legal Services, a nonprofit providing free civil legal aid to the most vulnerable people in Western North Carolina. Michelle’s focus for this year will be connecting with Monthly Meetings and encouraging them to faith-based action.
