As part of Praying with Dreamers week (Oct 29-Nov 4), FCNL sent a letter to Congress urging the enactment of the Dream Act of 2017.
Diane Randall, Executive Secretary of the Friends Committee on National Legislation stated,
“FCNL and Quakers across the country are holding all Dreamers, their families and the communities who have come to know them as neighbors and friends in Love, and Light, and prayer. As demonstrated by DACA-recipients, immigrants, including those who are undocumented, have consistently been essential to the economic and social strength of this nation. FCNL is looking to Congress to speak up and act to protect Dreamers from detention or deportation by passing a clean bipartisan Dream Act of 2017. We stand in solidarity with the undocumented community and other vulnerable immigrants. The time for Congress to act is now. Congress can and must pursue tangible, workable solutions for all people who meaningfully and equitably contribute to our shared communities. Passing the Dream Act of 2017 is the first crucial step.”
The letter reads,
“FCNL and Quakers across the country are calling on members of Congress to pass the Dream Act as a matter of faith. We have faith in the Light of God present in every Dreamer. We have commitment to the communities who have welcomed Dreamers throughout their lives. And we have confidence that our nation will be stronger when we give Dreamers an equitable chance to thrive. We pray that you, our nation’s leaders, will step up to this moral call and pass the Dream Act of 2017.”
National faith-based organizations sent over 40 letters to Congress to demonstrate interfaith support for Dreamers and urge Congress to enact the Dream Act into law.
