May 3rd, 2017, Washington, DC –

Members from the bipartisan House Climate Solutions Caucus just introduced their first piece of legislation in the 115th Congress, the Climate Solutions Commission Act of 2017. Led by Rep. John Delaney (D, MD-06) and Rep. John Faso (R, NY-19), the bill has 12 total sponsors evenly split between the two political parties.

This bill establishes a bipartisan commission to develop recommendations of economically viable policies to achieve science-based greenhouse gas emissions reductions goals.

“I am encouraged by the leadership of Rep. John K. Delaney and Rep. John Faso, who demonstrate today that there is bipartisan political will to address climate change in Congress with the introduction of the Climate Solutions Commission Act of 2017,” stated Diane Randall, FCNL’s Executive Secretary. “Our nation has a moral obligation to act on climate change. By creating a bipartisan commission committed to reducing greenhouse gas emissions, based upon the latest scientific findings, they take an important step forward towards protecting God’s creation and future generations.”

FCNL’s Legislative Representative for Sustainable Energy and Environment, Emily Wirzba, stated “This bill is a noteworthy step towards identifying policy pathways that will achieve robust emissions reductions. Now, more than even, it is vital that the US bases our climate policy on science. This bipartisan leadership couldn’t come at a more critical time for our climate.”

FCNL encourages and thanks the original co-sponsors of this legislation: Rep. Delaney (D, MD-06), Rep. John Faso (R, NY-19), Rep. Carlos Curbelo (R, FL-26), Rep. Ted Deutch (D, FL-21), Rep. Pat Meehan (R, PA-07), Rep. Alan Lowenthal (D, CA-47), Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick (R, PA-08), Rep. Scott Peters (D, CA-52), Rep. Elise Stefanik (R, NY-21) Rep. Brad Schneider (D, IL-10), Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R, FL-27), and Rep. Thomas Suozzi (D, NY-03).
