The stark political divide in the American electorate—so evident in this presidential campaign—makes our lobbying here in Washington tougher than ever. But you can count on FCNL to be right here on Capitol Hill, working relentlessly for peace and justice.
Many times in FCNL’s nearly 75-year history, we have been called on to heal, to exercise courage and love in the face of division. We know that we will find ways to uphold and advance peace and justice.
Already this morning our lobbying team met to consider what the election results mean for the legislation we care about. We have profound concerns about the offensive statements Mr. Trump made during the campaign, and about the impact of these statements on the well-being of specific communities. However, we don’t know much about how his administration will govern.
We do know that the divisions in our country are deep and many people are in fear and anguish. We also know that our practice of listening deeply and affirmatively recognizing that of God in every person is needed now more than ever.
We will welcome a new Congress in January with a few new members, where Republicans retain the majority. Your voice in talking to your members of Congress is essential: you make a difference when you reach out to build relationships. And you make a difference with your contributions to FCNL.
Tomorrow, more than 300 people will lobby with us here in Washington for criminal justice sentencing reform that has the support of both parties. With your support, we are determined to get legislation passed this year. And, when the new Congress and president start work in January, we will continue to be steadfast advocates for peace, solutions to climate change, immigration reform and sentencing reform, economic justice, and more.
Please join us in carrying this essential message of acting from love to your community.
Because of You
Your support makes it possible to advocate for peace, justice, and an earth restored.
