Concerned by President-elect Trump’s anti-Muslim policy proposals and rhetoric, as well as previous Islamophobic statements made by several of his nominees for high-level positions, FCNL joined nearly 100 organizations in sending a letter to members of Congress asking them to reaffirm their commitment to the First Amendment and the principle of religious freedom.
As the appropriations process for 2020 begins, FCNL joined 30 national, faith-based organizations in calling on Congress to recognize its moral obligation to allocate federal funds in a manner that prioritizes human needs, rather than expanding immigration enforcement measures that attack children, families, and workers.
In 2015, I was a junior in college, studying environmental biology. I
was keenly aware of the issue of climate change and trying to figure out what I could do to get involved as a college student.
It has been more than four months since Russia invaded Ukraine. In response to the terrible human toll of this illegal assault, FCNL led 23 faith organizations in sending a letter to every member of Congress today urging lawmakers to avoid actions that would escalate, expand, or prolong the war in Ukraine.
Serving as a volunteer poll chaplain on Nov. 8 in my home state of Ohio was an inspiring experience. I was honored to join colleagues from Faiths United to Save Democracy across the country, particularly in highly contested states, to be a friendly presence and provide moral support at the polls.

Since the Israel-Palestine war began following the deadly attack by Hamas on Oct. 7, we have witnessed a dramatic rise in Islamophobic and antisemitic rhetoric and violence throughout the United States. Hadiya and Odeliya are colleagues and friends at the Friends Committee on National Legislation. Hadiya is a Muslim American and Odeliya is an Israeli Jew. This rising tide of hate is something that they can’t ignore—as individuals or as advocates for peace.
The Friends Committee on National Legislation (FCNL) welcomes the declaration by Saudi Arabia of a two-week ceasefire to stop the spread of the coronavirus in Yemen. The Saudis should also suspend their air and sea blockade, which has cut off all commercial imports into and exports from the country. The blockade has prolonged and exacerbated the physical and economic suffering of millions of innocent Yemenis.
