Sofia was FCNL’s 2023-2024 program assistant for nuclear disarmament and Pentagon spending.
A proud San Francisco Bay Area native from Daly City, CA, she graduated from Amherst College in May 2022 with a bachelor’s degree in Political Science and Asian Languages and Civilizations. During her time at Amherst, Sofia organized with her campus chapter of Amnesty International, led a coalition of underrepresented students, and served in student government.
Sofia brings programmatic, congressional, policy research, and campaign experience with her to FCNL. She developed a passion for arms control at a young age, drawing from the experiences of displaced people she encountered in her personal life and in her ethnographic research—at the San Francisco District Attorney’s office and at the UC Hastings Center for Gender and Refugee Studies. More recently, she combined her nuclear policy knowledge and love for research and outreach at Global Zero and Foreign Policy for America.
In her free time, you can find Sofia reading up on the latest defense news, practicing her Arabic, thrifting, running, trying new coffee shops, or volunteering as an ESL tutor for recently arrived migrants.
