Peter Murchison is on a multi-month assignment to extend and enrich FCNL’s policy and advocacy work on gun violence prevention. Peter has been actively advocating on the issue since the Sandy Hook shootings, which took the life of his 7-year-old nephew Daniel Barden.
Peter ran several gun buybacks and has testified on behalf of state-level legislation. He serves on the board of Swords to Plowshares NE, where metal parts harvested from returned weapons are forged into gardening tools and donated to community gardening programs. Peter has written for Friends Journal and recently recorded a QuakerSpeak video that was their most-watched in 2022. With FCNL, he has presented in webinars and lobbied Congress to advance safer communities.
Peter is currently the clerk of the Wilton (CT) Quaker Meeting and is the gun violence prevention coordinator for New York Yearly Meeting. He has run programs to activate people on gun violence prevention in Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania.
