Lilian Serrano was born and raised on the U.S.-Mexico border region from a family of immigrant farm workers. She spent her teens in Oxnard California, a small agricultural town in Ventura County. She graduated from California State University San Marcos as the first in her family to earn a B.A.
As an undergraduate Lilian began actively working with grassroots organizations focused on immigrant rights. Her expertise and knowledge has allowed her to build and maintain strong ties in North County San Diego with community member who are impacted by immigration policies and organizations that work closely with farm worker families. Lilian is a member of Alianza Comunitaria, a coalition of human rights grassroots organizations who have been working with community members in the creation of an alert system to inform community members of the presence of license checkpoints and immigration raids in the North San Diego County area. She is also one of the community educators for Universidad Popular (People’s University), a family education and community engagement initiative cultivating knowledge and creating opportunities for Spanish speaking communities. Lilian believes that every person deserves to be treated with dignity and respect and is dedicated to promoting social justice all around her.
