Kameryn Point (Lumbee/Waccamaw Siouan) was the program assistant for criminal justice and election integrity for 2020-2021. In this role she lobbies for comprehensive justice reform, including the demilitarization of local police forces, required racial profiling and bias training for law enforcement, and an end to mass incarceration. She collaborates with FCNL’s network of grassroots supporters, coalition partners, and congressional offices to move our nation toward a more equitable and fair system for voting and elections.
Kameryn serves on the Leadership Team for 4Rosebud. Based in Rosebud Reservation, 4Rosebud is an advocacy group that includes Sicangu Lakota community members, educators, students, and allies. As a part of 4Rosebud, Kameryn organizes and trains members on how to lobby and advocate for issues that impact their community, such as the revitalization of Lakota language and culture on the reservation.
Previously, Kameryn taught U.S. history and government in Rosebud Reservation in South Dakota, through Teach For America. She received a joint B.A. with International Honours in history from the College of William and Mary and the University of St Andrews in Scotland, where she wrote her thesis on the foundations of systemic racism in the United States. Kameryn’s passion for racial equity is deeply rooted in her desire to honor the lives, struggles, and legacy of her ancestors.
