Chelsey Adams is a senior majoring in Sociology at Georgia College and State University in Milledgeville. She is the Secretary of the campus Sociology Club and has presented original research at the most recent Annual Southern Sociological Society Meeting in New Orleans. Chelsey is inspired by the legacy of political activism within the Black American Church and the role that religion has historically played in shaping political thought within the Black American community.
Having the opportunity to take part in faith-based activism such as the FCNL Advocacy Corps has long been a dream. The issues surrounding the increase in police militarization are of special interest to Chelsey, as her upcoming graduate research will focus on the history behind police television dramas and movies, the ways in which these mediums delineate what is and is not acceptable for law enforcement to display, how these have influenced American viewpoints on civil rights, and how these have had real-life consequences. Chelsey believes that her experience with FCNL will give her the tools needed to be both an effective voice for change in her community and an individual who will propel others forward so that they may use their own voices to affect change. She believes that teamwork really is the only way to make the dream work.
