Ceryndipity Aslan Schoel was born and raised in Santa Fe, New Mexico, and after living in the freezing mountains of Vermont to attend Middlebury College, she returned to her hometown. Ceryn had the opportunity to travel the world with her debate team, even spending two weeks at The Hague in the Netherlands for the World Championships of British Parliamentary Debate. After exploring more of the world, she came to the realization that change must begin in your own backyard.
Ceryn decided to work with her local government to fight for necessary change, starting by lobbying her representatives and senators on the issue of mass incarceration then moving to work in the local office of Senator Tom Udall. These experiences gave Ceryn insight into the cloudy veil surrounding politics for most people, and she is excited to help lift that veil for historically disenfranchised voices all over New Mexico. As a Quaker and a New Mexican, violence, especially by police officers and ICE, has always been present. To act as an Advocacy Corps member and use the resources provided by FCNL to find a way to aid marginalized people in a fight that sometimes feels hopeless, is an incredible gift.
