Asma Rassem served as the 2021 Herbert Scoville Jr. Peace fellow at FCNL. In this capacity, she worked through the FCNL Education Fund to provide program support for the peacebuilding team and specifically for the Prevention and Protection Working Group (PPWG).
Asma graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University with a B.A. in international studies in August 2020. Her interest and passion in conflict resolution led her to focus her studies on International Social Justice. She also minored in Arabic & Middle Eastern Studies.
Asma is a native of Yemen, from the city of Hodeida. She came to the United States in 2014 as part of a select group of exchange students through the U.S Department of State Youth Exchange and Study program. In 2016, Asma was selected to participate in the Community College Initiative Program, also sponsored by the State Department. In the fall of 2020, Asma interned at UNRWA-USA National Committee where she helped with the Nationwide Gaza 5K race, which raised funds to provide mental health aid for children in the Gaza strip and Palestine refugee camps in Lebanon.
