Afreen Minai is the policy associate at Win without War. She was the program assistant for FCNL’s Militarism and Human Rights program. As program assistant she lobbied to reduce Pentagon spending, reallocate war powers to Congress, and end U.S. militarism abroad.
Afreen graduated cum laude from the University of Maryland in 2023, with a bachelor’s degree in Government and Politics (and a minor in Nonprofit Leadership and Social Innovation). During her time at Maryland, she served as appellate board chair for the University Student Judiciary, managing editor for an on-campus newspaper, and teaching assistant for the School of Public Policy. She also had the opportunity to study abroad in Seoul, South Korea, where she learned more about the U.S. military’s impact overseas.
Afreen previously worked at FCNL as their Research and Outreach intern in the summer of 2021. In this role she interviewed former advocates and provided FCNL with recommendations for member retention. She greatly enjoyed learning about Quakerism and meeting members of the community. She has also served as communications intern at the Human Rights Campaign, where she gained experience tracking congressional policy and events.
A native Ohioan, Afreen enjoys reading, traveling, and listening to music in her free time.
