Remembering 9/11: A Solemn Day and a Turning Point
As this anniversary approaches, we mourn the people who died in New York, Washington, and Pennsylvania. We also mourn the tens of thousands of others around the world who have died since then in the wars our country launched in response to 9/11. This anniversary marker gives us pause to consider a better approach to deadly conflict. Read more of our reflections on the tenth anniversary of September 11:

Send Us Your Questions for Rep. Barbara Lee
Ten years after Barbara Lee cast the only vote against the permanent “War on Terror,” she remains one of the staunchest advocates for a change in U.S. policy. Our Executive Secretary, Diane Randall, will be interviewing Rep. Lee in early September. What would you like Diane to ask Rep. Lee? Submit your questions and sign up to receive more information about how you can watch the interview on the web.
Matt Southworth Returns From Afghanistan: Reflections and His Analysis
FCNL’s Matt Southworth, our foreign policy associate lobbying against the war in Afghanistan has just returned with the delegation of eight people he organized for the week's visit—including two Hill staffers. "We met with international aid agencies, former Taliban representatives, Afghan women and even the Mayor of Kabul. I’m back with a simple but urgent message: the war is not working; it is time to change the strategy.” Read more.
FCNL’s Bridget Moix writes, “As Qaddafi appears to be finally lose his grip on Libya, many policymakers and pundits are celebrating the US/NATO military intervention as a great success. But I still have my doubts. And I still believe war is not the answer.” Read more.
Pennies for Peace: Funding the Peaceful Prevention of Deadly Conflict
Congress is looking to cut spending and funding for many important peace building programs is the first on the chopping block. These programs are critical for preventing deadly conflict and averting much more costly crises and, at just 2 percent of the total discretionary budget, they are a bargain. Read more in an article in our most recent Washington Newsletter.
A Home and a Job
There is a solution to homelessness. It’s a home. And there’s a solution to unemployment. It’s a job. Our elected officials can take action that will not only prevent homelessness and address substandard low-income housing, but they can act to put people to work by investing in affordable housing. Read my blog post and the letter FCNL signed by the National Low Income Housing Coalition.
