Anna Crumley -Effinger
Anna Crumley-Effinger, a lifelong Quaker, a Earlham College graduate, a former member of the Field Committee, and a former Quaker United Nations Office intern, now works with the American Friends Service Committee in Kenya. She reports that even in Africa she still turns to FCNL to keep her connected to debates in Washington and in touch with her members of Congress from Indiana.
Anna first became involved with FCNL in 2001, when she attended Annual Meeting and was inspired by the speeches given by FCNL interns. She remembers imagining what it might be like if someday she came to Washington to work with Congress. While Anna ended up working with the United Nations instead, she remained involved with FCNL. As a member of the Field Committee, she was particularly interested in how FCNL allowed young people to participate in all aspects of the organization, from attending lobby days, to organizing in their home states, to joining FCNL as interns. She finds that the organization's willingness to educate and involve young people helped her grow academically, politically, and spiritually.
