Votes on Violence Against Women Act in the House
On May 16, the House voted for a version of the Violence Against Women Act - H.R. 4970. FCNL and 29 faith groups opposed this bill, along with hundreds of advocacy and service organizations around the country, because it would have rolled back protections for immigrant women, failed to ban discrimination against victims based on sexual orientation, and eliminated provisions in the Senate bill that would specifically protect Native women.
Of the 222 who voted for the bill, 216 were Republicans and 6 were Democrats. Of the 205 who voted against, 182 were Democrats and 23 were Republicans.
