Sentencing Commission to Hold Hearing on VAWA Reauthorization
Feb 3, 2014
The U.S. Sentencing Commission, which establishes sentencing policies and guidelines for federal courts among other duties, met on January 9 to discuss sentencing guidelines for federal drug sentences as well as an amendment to the Violence Against Women Reauthorization Act of 2013 (VAWA). The proposed VAWA amendment adds and changes sentencing enhancements for domestic violence offenses against Native American women, a category of violations that VAWA established.
The Sentencing Commission announced a public hearing related to VAWA reauthorization, scheduled for February 13.
