Minute from Storrs Friends Meeting on Diplomacy With Iran

The Storrs Connecticut Monthly Meeting of the Religious Society of Friends (Quakers) approved the following minute on Peacefully Resolving U.S. Disagreements with Iran.

As members of Storrs Friends Meeting, we are concerned about our government’s current disagreements with the government of Iran which, if not resolved, could lead to war. We oppose the sanctions that our government has applied to Iran because they are isolating and punitive.

We reach out to the Iranian people and to Americans and wish to lessen our mutual stress and fear.

We encourage Americans to:  learn about contemporary Iran and about its rich and ancient culture, promote public discussion of the issues, send letters to our government officials and representatives that urge respectful negotiations with the Iranian government and that seek to keep Iran within the community of nations.

We believe that direct, comprehensive, and sustained diplomacy with the Iranian government can lead to peaceful and enduring resolutions to the disagreements between our two nations and that open conflict can thus be avoided.

In Peace,

Norman K. Janes, Clerk
