Most immigrants in the United States send a significant portion of their earnings back to support their families and communities in their countries of origin. While this money may appear to be siphoned off of the U.S. economy, remittances actually boost U.S. participation in global trade networks. In addition, remittances can be a valuable tool for economic stability in developing countries.
