Alaskan Friends Use Bean Poll

Apr 6, 2011

Drawing on the example of others in Washington and Michigan, Quakers in Alaska also used the bean poll to dramatize federal budget decision making.

Each person received a handful of dried beans as representative of income in the federal government, and were asked to distribute their 'resources' according to their priorities for federal government spending.

FCNL constituent David Bantz commented that although the poll was much simpler than others he'd seen, it was still quite effective.

You too can create your own bean poll to use in Meeting Houses, Peace Centers and booths at local events. Find out more.
