FCNL
Tuesday: Tell Your Senators
Military contractors and others are pouring money into trying to protect the Pentagon from cuts. Your voice can make a difference. Please join FCNL in lobbying this year—and this week--to ensure the Pentagon budget is cut by at least $1 trillion over the next 10 years.
While your senators are home on recess this week, please make an appointment to visit their district offices to ask them to keep the Pentagon budget reductions of $1 trillion as required by current law. Find the phone numbers of your senators’ district offices on our website and see our tips for having a successful lobby visit (Many offices want appointment requests in writing, but you should start by calling the office to find out their preference.)
If you aren’t able to make an appointment, you can still have an impact. Print out two copies of this flyer on Pentagon waste, fraud and abuse. Hand-write a brief note to attach to each (see an example below), then find a time this week to drop off the flyer and the note at your senators’ district offices. Find the addresses of their district offices here.
Here’s a sample note you could include with the flyer
Dear Senator ______,
My name is _______ and I live in ___(City, State)____. I am concerned the Pentagon is not going to be required to pay its fair share of our country’s efforts to bring down our national debt. Particularly given the waste, fraud and abuse that goes on in the Pentagon’s budget, it’s time to rein that budget in. I hope you will support reducing the Pentagon budget by $1 trillion, as required by the Budget Control Act, and I look forward to hearing your perspective on this issue.
Sincerely,
Your Name
