Monday: Help Veterans, Cut the Pentagon
May 28, 2012
This Memorial Day, mark the sacrifice of those who have died in war, those with the visible and invisible scars of violence and those who will be asked to serve in the future by taking action to dismantle the war machine that continues to fuel conflict. The money that goes to Pentagon contractors could house every homeless veteran and help guarantee them the protections that their service has earned.
Now is the time to act. Current law mandates that the government cut around $1 trillion form the Pentagon budget over the next 10 years. But members of Congress are trying to back out of the cuts, under pressure by lobbyists for military contractors. The House has already passed the first piece of legislation to remove these cuts. Soon it will be the Senate's turn to decide.
Your senators will be in your state during the week of Memorial Day to meet with their constituents. Will you join us in working for a peaceful federal budget? Sign up to receive updates about our week of action. Let your senators know how the bloated Pentagon budget affects veterans. And share this image with your friends on Facebook.
