Health Care Reform in the 111th Congress: How do Current Proposals Measure Up?
Congress is currently debating three major health care reform proposals drafted by relevant committees—the Senate Finance Committees, the Senate Health Education and Labor (HELP) Committee’s and a “tri-committee” proposal collaboratively drafted by the House Ways and Means, Education and Labor and Energy and Commerce Committees. The three proposals have a common structure for a health care system with key difference on reforms. The plans are evaluated below based on FCNL’s goals for health care reform: universal access to comprehensive health care, national standards for public and employer-sponsored coverage, affordable health care for everyone, improved and expanded existing public health programs, and fair financing of health care reform.
