What the Candidates Didn't Say
Were you disappointed with the presidential debate tonight? I was.
I was glad to see military spending and war were mentioned. But I was disappointed that we didn’t have a full conversation about the cost to our economy and our nation of runaway Pentagon spending.
Even though I didn’t hear what I was looking for, I know that tonight isn’t the end of this debate. Whoever is elected president may set the tone, but the real decisions about spending will get made by the people elected to Congress. Let your congressional candidates know what you thought was missing from the presidential candidate’s debate. What they hear today may well influence what they do if they get elected.
You can use our website to send a message to your candidates.
My message tonight is to ask the candidates to support legislation to cut the Pentagon budget by $1 trillion over the next 10 years. Many members of Congress understand that after a decade during which Pentagon spending almost doubled, it’s time to rein in military spending.
I hope you will write to your candidates too. We’ve provided a sample message about Pentagon spending cuts, or you can edit the message to reflect your own particular concerns.
Sincerely,

Jim Cason
Associate Executive Secretary for Strategic Advocacy
