Take Action: End the Endless War

Take Action: End the Endless War

Thank you to all of you who commented or sent your responses to my email about the anniversary of the September 11 attacks. Many of you shared personal memories and thoughts about the choices the U.S. has taken over the past ten years: to wage war, torture, and spend huge amounts on the military.

Today, I’m asking you to take action to help repeal legislation passed in the wake of September 11 that gave the president a blank check to fight war, to torture, to launch drone attacks and much more. This week marks the tenth anniversary of the passage of this legislation.

On this anniversary, please ask your representative to cosponsor H.R.2859, which would repeal the Authorization for Use of Military Force. H.R. 2859 was introduced by Rep. Barbara Lee (CA), the only representative to vote against the Authorization in 2001.Then please forward this to five of your friends and ask them to act as well.

In September 2001, Congress rushed to provide the Bush administration authority to wage a “war on terror.” The Authorization for the Use of Military Force, passed by the House on September 14, gave the president broad and open-ended power to carry out this “war”. After ten years, we can see the consequences of this legislation in the headlines from Afghanistan and in the distrust with which the United States is regarded. We can see that war is not the answer. It’s time to repeal this authorization.

Thank you for your work to bring this chapter of U.S. history to an end.
