Your representative is under intense pressure to roll back cuts in the Pentagon budget that Congress agreed to last year.  Will you help us preserve these cuts, which total nearly $1 trillion over the next decade?

Your members of Congress are hearing an earful from Pentagon officials every day, and military contractors are spending millions to make sure these cuts don't happen. Your representative needs to hear from you that you support at least a $1 trillion in cuts to Pentagon spending.

These cuts--which Congress agreed to as a way of reducing the deficit--are a first step toward moving our country away from a foreign policy based on fighting wars. They will also help reduce the deficit while assuring that additional cuts aren't made to vital human services.

A law signed by the president last year would require the Pentagon to cut its budget by almost $1 trillion over ten years. At FCNL, we think the Pentagon budget should be cut by a lot more and investments in peace should grow. Yet some members of Congress are already planning to introduce legislation to roll back these cuts to the Pentagon's budget. Please contact your representative today and tell him or her you support cutting the Pentagon budget by $1 trillion over 10 years.

For decades, the Pentagon budget has been going up, and up, and up, to fund an outsized mission and legions of contractors. The military budget is so out of control that the Pentagon itself has lost track of its spending. And, according to some analyses, the percentage of the Pentagon budget that goes to soldiers' pay is smaller today than it was ten years ago.

Concerns about the budget deficit and the U.S.'s economic health are leading every aspect of government spending to receive new scrutiny. But many people are also very comfortable with the way things are now and are working hard to keep it from changing. Your voice matters right now with your representative. Make sure he or she hears from you.

Sincerely,

Diane Randall
Executive Secretary
