Key Vote on Global Warming Could Be Tomorrow: Call Today!
As soon as tomorrow, your senators could vote on whether to tie the hands of the Obama administration in its efforts to address global warming.
Sen. Lisa Murkowski (AK) plans to offer an amendment that would revoke the authority of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to regulate greenhouse gas emissions under the Clean Air Act. Call your senators today to urge them to vote "no" on the Murkowski amendment.
Last month, the Obama administration formally stated that global warming gases substantially endanger the health and well being of the public. Because of this endangerment finding, the administration is now required to move forward with sensible regulations to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Sen. Murkowski's amendment would deny the administration this important tool to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
The EPA's ability to ensure basic minimum emission standards for coal-fired power plants and other large carbon emitters is an indispensible tool for combating global warming. It's also currently the only tool available to the government to reduce carbon emissions.
Dozens of environmental, faith, and social justice organizations have united against this attack on the Clean Air Act. With the help of your voices now, we can defeat this amendment.
