Strengthening Public Safety in Indian Country

President Barack Obama signed the Tribal Law and Order Act in late July 2010, legislation that will improve public safety in Indian Country and provide new tools to address the safety of women. It establishes specific funding, guidelines, and programs to address such issues in Indian Country as alcohol and drug abuse, domestic and sexual violence, lack of law enforcement, complicated jurisdictional issues, and overcrowded detention facilities. FCNL worked with leaders in the faith community to lobby for passage of this legislation.
