Pat advocates along side lobbyists from national Native American organizations on issues of vital concern to American Indians, Alaska Natives, and Native Hawaiians. Those issues include protection of religious freedom and sacred sites, fairness regarding trust monies, provision of health care and other basic needs, and sovereignty. FCNL publishes a quarterly newsletter called the Indian Report and shares information and action alerts about the status and rights of tribal peoples with other religious lobby organizations and the public. Quakers have a historic relationship with Indian Nations that predates the founding of the United States. This relationship is maintained by cooperative efforts and through periodic dialogues about concerns. FCNL joined with the American Friends Service Committee and the Associated Committee of Friends on Indian Affairs to convene gatherings of Quakers and Native Americans in 1999 (Tulsa, OK) and 2004 (Boulder, CO). Pat has a PhD in American cultural studies—with specializations in ethnography, social change, and media--and a master’s in social work. She is the co-author of a textbook published by Oxford University Press entitled Community Practice and has a background in teaching, training, policy analysis, advocacy, and organizing
