Alex became FCNL's Publications Manager in April 2008. He has been a freelance copyeditor and translator, the managing editor of a Latin Americanist
journal, a newspaper and wire service reporter, and a teacher of English as a second language.
A graduate of Carolina Friends School in Durham, North Carolina, he has a bachelor of arts from Hampshire College in Amherst, Massachusetts, and a master of arts in English from the Creative Writing Program at the University of Texas at Austin. He was born in Brittany, France, to a French mother and a U.S. father and grew up in a bilingual household. His translation (from the Spanish) of Reinaldo Funes Monzote's From Rainforest to Cane Field in Cuba: An Environmental History since 1492 was published in January 2008 by the University of North Carolina Press.
At night and on weekends at festivals and in bars and restaurants around the DC area, he can be found performing as a jazz guitarist with his quartet, Amérique Latine, or with the Alex Martin Trio.
